Simone Petraglia Kropf

Simone Petraglia Kropf holds a bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences from the Pontifícia Universidade Católica of Rio de Janeiro (1991), a master’s in the Social History of Culture from the same university (1995), and a PhD in Social History from the Universidade Federal Fluminense (2006). She is a researcher with the Casa de Oswaldo Cruz Research Department and professor with PPGHCS, where she was Program Chair from July 2013 to June 2015. She served on the board of the Brazilian Society of the History of Science (SBHC) from 2009 to 2012. Her research and teaching interests include the history of the biomedical sciences in Brazil; the history of tropical medicine (especially Chagas disease); and relations between science, health, and national projects in the twentieth century. She is currently investigating the history of cardiology in Brazil, with a focus on exchange programs with the United States in the context of cultural diplomacy during World War II and discussions about cardiovascular diseases as illnesses associated with the realm of labor during the 1930s and 1940s.
