Luiz Otávio Ferreira has a bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences from the Universidade Federal Fluminense (1985), a master’s in Sociology and Anthropology from the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (1989), and a PhD in Social History from the Universidade de São Paulo (1996). He is a researcher with the Casa de Oswaldo Cruz Research Department and professor with PPGHCS. He is also a professor with the Department of Social Sciences and Education at the Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro School of Education. His current research interests include the history of assistance with an emphasis on the relationship between philanthropy, assistance organizations, and social policy, and the history of the sciences and health with an emphasis on gender and technoscientific professions.
