Lorelai Brilhante Kury has a bachelor’s degree in History from the Pontifícia Universidade Católica of Rio de Janeiro (1986) and a master’s in History from the Universidade Federal Fluminense (1990). She also received a D.E.A. in History (1991) and a PhD in History and Civilizations (1995) from the École de Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris. She holds a CNPq Research Fellowship, level 1. She is a researcher with the Casa de Oswaldo Cruz Research Department and professor with PPGHCS, where she teaches the history of the sciences, historiography, and theory and methodology. She is also professor of Theory and Methodology with the Department of History at the Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro. Her research interests cover the history of the sciences in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, especially topics related to natural history, nature, and medicine. She is currently investigating reading practices and the publication of science books, manuals, and journals from the advent of the press in Brazil through the mid-nineteenth century. She is writing a book on the French naturalist and voyager Auguste de Saint-Hilaire.
