Flavio Coelho Edler earned a bachelor’s degree in History from the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro in 1987 and a master’s in Social History from the Universidade de São Paulo in 1992. In 1999, he received his PhD in Collective Health from the Institute of Social Medicine at the Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, which included doctoral research conducted at the Faculté de Médecine Necker-U-152 INSERM in France in 1998. He was formerly president of the Brazilian Society of the History of Science (SBHC) and is currently co-editor of the History and Health Collection, published by Editora Fiocruz. He is a researcher with the Casa de Oswaldo Cruz Research Department and professor with PPGHCS. His prime research interest is the history of the sciences, with a focus on the history of medicine. He is currently investigating the history of clinical and experimental research; disease and social identity; and the history of public health.
