Jaime Larry Benchimol earned a bachelor’s degree in History from the Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF) in 1976; a master’s in Urban and Regional Planning from the Alberto Luiz Coimbra Institute for Graduate Studies and Research in Engineering (COPPE), of the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, in 1982; and a PhD in History from UFF in 1995. He trained in the restoration of historic monuments in Italy in 1983. He is a researcher with the Casa de Oswaldo Cruz Research Department and professor with both PPGHCS and the Graduate Program on Living Conditions and Health Situations in the Amazon, at the Leônidas and Maria Deane Institute in Manaus. He served as science editor of História, Ciências, Saúde—Manguinhos from January 1997 through March 2015 and is currently a member of its Editorial Board. His research and teaching interests include the history of the life sciences; the history of tropical medicine and public health; and urban history.
